It’s Wednesday dolls, which means it’s time for a new post. I hope you are all well and your week has been productive so far!... it's almost Friday so hang in there. Today’s post is a review on the high-end brand Yves Saint Laurent’s Touche Éclat Foundation which retails for £30/€40. Today I’m wearing and reviewing it in the shade B80.
“The most beautiful makeup of a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy.”
Let's start with a brief history lesson.
YSL first launched the Touche Éclat highlighter twenty years ago and it quickly became a legendary beauty product and is a lot of beauty fanatic's all-time favorite high-end highlighter.YSL's concept with the foundation version was to give customers the same illuminated look except this time for their entire face, essentially enhancing their natural complexion and radiance using natural light.
The Touche Éclat is lightweight/medium coverage foundation, it feels pure on the face, silky texture, and erases imperfections. This foundation aims to target the dark areas of the face and enhance the wearer's natural features while defining their natural contour.
Beige 80 Swatch
For the longest time, I have looked for a foundation to replace my Mac Studio Fix Fluid NW46 foundation. I've tried and reviewed Bobbi Brown and now I've tried YSL. I love Mac don't get me wrong, but Mac foundations can be a tiny bit too heavy and slightly off shade (although Mac foundations always look on point in pictures). I did a lot of research online and decided to get a week's tester for the Touche Éclat. The beauty counter girl matched me to B80 which was a perfect match for me at the time. I used the tester for a week, got a lot of compliments and so I bought it a while later.

My Thoughts?
My first impression of Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Éclat was that it was a really comfortable foundation to wear, Touche Éclat is without dispute weightless and radiant on the skin. One can choose to use it as a slight touchup on the face or build on the coverage by adding a little more at a time to certain areas. I truly do like this foundation, but my affection for the Touche Éclat Foundation ends at a "Like". Now you must be wondering, why?
In theory, this is a great foundation, but the YSL Touche Éclat has elements about it that might put me off re-purchasing it EVER!.
- There was only three dark shades in the collection which to me is ridiculous in the year 2015, black people are NOT only three shades. This is what frustrates me about certain makeup brands and their usual excuse "darker tones don't sell, so we have to cut the line short".
- Another thing is how glowy it gets after a few hours....not oily... glowy! The foundation is supposed to be luminous, which means highlighting your face after wearing it is just pointless! So unless you are someone that just wears foundation and gets out their door then this isn't the foundation for you.
- Thirdly Touche Éclat is missing SPF, This means if you have hyperpigmentation like I do slightly around my mouth then it's not great choice for you.
- Lastly, My skin tone changed slightly over the summer and I don't think the Touche Éclat foundation adapted as well as Mac or Bobbi Brown would have.
So in conclusion I do like the Touche Éclat Foundation but it personally needs adjusting for me to ever consider buying another bottle.

Good review of the brand and product. I used it few months ago and it was brilliant on my skin. Just to add that it is fragrance free and largely water base hence light on skin.

You can get testers for it in Debehams, you should definitely try it. Thanks for reading and commenting x
DeleteIt's always annoying when there seems a design flaw in luxury brands, but truly frustrating when the lack of shades or undertones limits your choice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your experience. :]
thanks for reading x
Deleteyou look flawless in it! too bad it's not great. for that price point it should be the best of the best!

DeleteI totally agree with the makeup brands not having enough shades on the darker end of the spectrum because it makes it really hard for black women (and men) to find the correct shade which is why I love the Maybelline Fit Me line so much because there are so many different shades, especially in the darker shades. The product sounds okay but I don't think I will be trying it any time soon
ReplyDeleteI completely agree Ebony, Thank you so much for your imput x
Deletevery useful review! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks x
DeleteIt's a shame this wasn't a winner for you lovely, it looks great on you in your pics :) xxx Thou Shalt Not Covet
ReplyDeleteI know right... looks good for a limited time x
DeleteFirstly your skin looks absolutely amazing wearing this! Its such a shame it wasn't the greatest product for you, I really do think a lot of companies should think about their darker foundation ranges and actually some of their lighter ones too as I have friends who are quite pale and can't find anything that even comes close to them xx

DeleteLove this post. This foundation colour ranges is starting to become a problem; it's like make up companies don't recognise all women of colour anymore. My favourite foundation was L'Oréal True Match in Cappuccino until it was discontinued.
ReplyDeleteOMG I use that too so now i cant get it anymore ! £Sucks !
DeleteI have never tried any foundation from the brand...Too bad about the color selection as well! x

There are really a lot of brands that carry a very limited shades of their foundation. And that's just so annoying!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mhisha x
DeleteYour skin looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'd avoid this I think as my skin is super oily but it's great to hear your thoughts on it :)

Wow your skin does look amazing x
ReplyDeleteYou look great! It does suck about the shade thing! I have found that I have had to use multiple types of products to create the shade I need sometimes with brands like that!
ReplyDeleteGreat review, I appreciate the honesty.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to give this foundation a shot but I don't think it's for me. I'm more of a matte-lover, I produce my own "glow" if you know what I mean.
Shame about the shade thing as well!

Who wants the oily look right ! thanks doll for reading x
DeleteReceived this as a gift last Winter. I didn't love it at first because I thought the coverage was too heavy but now It's my number 1 foundation as I happen to love the glow-y effect, followed by Lancôme. Really great review though! x

I love Lancome too, thanks for commenting x
DeleteI LOVE your blog design btw! But on to the foundation, I tried a sample of this but like you said it's just to luminous for oily skin, which is a shame as it's beautiful but was no good for me. Can't believe the only do 3 dark shades though! x
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie x
